Translated chat
How @lang works, the 1.5 second wait and why a translation can be wrong.
Heritage translates chat between Portuguese, English and Spanish while you play. It is off until you choose a language.
Turn it on
Type @lang pt, @lang en or @lang es in the chat. @lang alone shows your current setting. The language you pick in the launcher is already used for the interface and the scripts; @lang sets the chat.
What you see
When someone speaks a language that is not yours, you get the original line and, right after it, a second line with the translation (shown in yellow, marked with the language, for example [pt] Ana: olá). No other line from other players is placed between the two. It works in the map, party, guild and whisper chat. Alliance, buddy chat and messages with a linked item are not translated.
The wait
The original line is held until the translation is ready, for at most 1.5 seconds. If the translator is slower than that, the original appears alone, the translation is dropped and you get a notice such as "Translation is slow right now; showing the original text only" (at most once every 30 seconds). While the translator keeps missing the limit, the server stops waiting for a while and shows lines at once.
Limits you should know
- The translation is automatic and it can be wrong, especially with slang, jokes and very short phrases. When it matters, ask the other player.
- Short interjections and numbers (
kk,gg,hp) are not translated. - There is a limit of 5 lines per 10 seconds per character and channel; lines above it arrive without translation.
- A glossary keeps game terms (bosses, classes, potions, meso, common slang) stable across the three languages.
- Names of mobs, items, NPCs, maps and skills stay in English everywhere, on purpose, so everybody searches and talks about the same thing.
Quests and NPCs
Quest text, NPC dialogue and game windows are translated ahead of time into Portuguese and Spanish, not live. A script line that is not in the translation catalogue shows in English.
